    Thank you for the nice video :) Maybe a question for the Q&A, about aircraft performance. Is it true that the 'standard' vs 'reserve' takeoff power setting (or Flex/Reduced vs TOGA thrust setting for jets), influences the takeoff roll time but not the Vr and V2 speeds?

    • @threeuniquefingers
      @threeuniquefingers День тому

      I’m no pilot, but aren’t those speeds for any given plane configuration , a constant factor? Like for example if for a given weather,weight and the Vr is 119knots, than it shouldn’t matter WHEN you reach that speed it’s a matter of IF you have reached it or not. If you’re at TO/GA you get there faster, if not you get there later, but it doesn’t/shouldn’t change its numerical Value with a diff power setting. Again, I’m no pilot, just an Avgeek, so correct me if I’m wrong. Thenksss

    Would be nice to add a proof, or let's say a motivation, of why Bernoulli's principle is correct. The idea is the conservation of local energy density in the fluid.

    Theoretically, All performance margin are based on 10^-9 rate of catastrophic failure, so in real flight with say unpredictable wind, average passenger weight error, incorrect control etc etc... you might get over the runway with single engine at 20' or 50' or whatever, so aim for 35' gives you 99.9999999% of the chance you clear the threshold above 0'. But I don't believe FAA really ran all the numbers back then to came up with 35', it could have been just a historical coincidence. And if we run the numbers today.... it's unlikely to be done as it still requires too many information...

    Hi Captain Magnar, I have been watching your videos for quite some time. I am a P2 on the Q400 and some of the systems are very familiar. I have been wondering for quite sometime, why are the Atrs's so underpowered compared to the Q400. We have PW150A which at our NTOP Setting is 4580 SHP and MTOP is 5071 SHP. In our airspace we have many ATRs and they are slow compared to the Q400. Is there a reason why ATR has opted for a slower engine? Perhaps fuel saving..

  • @cruxader27

      At 1:43 is the page from NASA he refers to: "How is Lift Generated?" I assume there would not be much dispute that lift is caused by a solid's asymmetry to the relative wind causing a turning of the air? There appears to be some uncertainty though on the basic physics responsible for this turning of the air, in particular if the change in direction of the air's momentum can occur without viscosity. Is viscosity so key to lift generation that we shouldn't be talking about lift without putting viscosity front and center, or is the jury still out on that? This video and the NASA website don't seem to care about the topic, but listening to aeronautical engineers and looking at some of the published topics, we should always be including viscosity in basic explanations of lift or not? It was stated to me: "the asymmetry causing the change in momentum direction cannot exist without viscosity." It's certainly not clear to me. Any ideas?

    Hi Magnar, I enjoyed watching your video seeing how different ATR operators fly, just a slight notice, how come at your operator you dont use told card for your operator? I dont think i could see any below the CDLS. And how come your acceleration altitude is so low? at my Operator we use 1000Ft AAL or depending on performance calculations

    • @FlywithMagnar

      Do you mean the takeoff and landing data card? It is not required for ATR with glass cockpit. It is removed from the FCTM. Minimum acceleration altitude is 400 ft, and it is up to the operator to define it.
